Now in its ninth year, Camp BCAMP, the BC Association of Magazine Publishers’ annual weekend-long professional development event for publishers of small- to medium-sized magazines, is an invaluable networking opportunity, bringing in industry experts from across the country to speak on timely topics in all areas of magazine publishing.

Friday, January 29

  • Session 1: BC Arts Council
    Literary and arts magazine publishers and staff are invited to a free, informal discussion with the BC Arts Council's Chris Gudgeon,  who will update the situation with the BC Arts Council's literary and publishing program.

    NOTE: This session replaces the free Canada Periodical Fund information session, which has been cancelled because the CPF representative is no longer able to attend. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes.

    D. B. Scott presents his hopeful view of the current challenges for magazine publishing in Canada.

Spa services
Camp BCAMP participants are entitled to 20% off spa services for Friday or Sunday. (Spa discounts are not available on Saturday due to high business volume.) Rated the #1 spa on Vancouver Island by Spas of America, the Grotto Spa features body wraps, massages, scrubs, pedicures, manicures, and facials, many with a focus on West Coast natural ingredients. All guests of the spa receive access to the 2,500 square foot Grotto mineral pool, included with their treatment. Advance reservations are highly recommended and can be made by calling 1-800-663-7373.

Ferry travel
The resort is approximately 30 minutes by car from the Departure Bay ferry terminal in Nanaimo. For more information regarding ferry travel, call BC Ferries at 1-888-BC-FERRY (1-888-223-3779) or visit www.bcferries.com.

Carpooling
BCAMP will be organizing carpool transportation between Vancouver to Tigh-Na-Mara, as well as transportation between the Departure Bay Ferry Terminal and Tigh-Na-Mara. Sign up to receive carpool information when you register.

Air travel
The resort is approximately 30 minutes by car from the Nanaimo seaplane terminals, and approximately 50 minutes by car from the Nanaimo Airport and Comox Valley Airport. Airport shuttle service to Tigh-Na-Mara may be arranged in advance directly with the resort.

Accommodations at Tigh-Na-Mara
Special shared accommodation rates are available to Camp BCAMP participants:

  • Studio rooms (two beds): $88.43 per night, per person
  • Two-bedroom cottages or spa bungalow suites: 
    • Double occupancy: $99.93 per night, per person
    • Triple occupancy: $80.95 per night, per person

Rates include hot breakfast buffet, gratuity and applicable taxes.

A limited number of private rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
