Anicka Quin named BCAMP Volunteer of the Year

BCAMP congratulates the recipient of the Volunteer of the Year award, Anicka Quin. In addition to her busy schedule as managing editor of Western Living and editor of Western Living Condo, Anicka manages to
log many hours as an advisor, mentor, supporter and cheerleader for BC's mercurial magazine industry.

A valued voice on the Langara College publishing program advisory committee, Anicka also sits on the communications degree advisory committee at Capilano University, helping to build the framework of
their new communications degree program, and participates on the board of the Canadian Society of Magazine Editors.

Jessica Ross, CSME vice president and executive editor of Homemakers, says, "Despite being several provinces away from the Canadian Society of Magazine Editors' Toronto headquarters, Anicka enthusiastically contributes to CSME discussions and brings cross-Canada thinking to enrich our CSME's events, awards and conference sessions. We really appreciate having Anicka on our board!"

A past board president and committee member at BCAMP, Anicka remains active in the organization's professional development committee, which is the perfect place for someone whose dedication to lifelong learning invests her with first-hand knowledge of the skills today's magazine professional needs to be successful.

Most importantly, Anicka is tireless in her dedication to serving this industry. Always encouraging, inspirational and tolerant, she infuses those around her with a desire for excellence, whether seasoned professionals or neophyte interns.

Katie Nanton, editorial assistant at NUVO, says, "As a brand new intern at Western Living, Anicka answered all my questions--and there were many--with complete patience. Plus, no matter how busy, she would always make time to talk on a personal level if need be. Working for her, and learning from her, was a completely valuable experience."

The BCAMP Volunteer of the Year award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated years of volunteer involvement in the magazine industry and provided inspiration for bright up-and-comers. Anicka will be
honoured by Magazines Canada at the Cross-Canada Volunteer Appreciation reception, which takes places on June 4 during the MagNet conference in Toronto.
