Formerly known as the BC Association of Magazine Publishers, the Magazine Association of BC represents, connects and promotes the BC magazine industry by uniting the talent, knowledge and skills of its publishers, editors, writers, graphic artists, salespeople and others in the industry. BC magazines foster award-winning talent and represent some of the best periodicals published in Canada. MagsBC membership is made up of a wide variety of magazines, from small to large, literary to lifestyle and leisure, arts and culture, news, business, and special interest magazines.
These titles represent the diverse interests of British Columbians and are read by more than one million people around the world. MagsBC works to create an environment in which BC magazine publishers can continue to integrate culture with entrepreneurial enthusiasm.
MagsBC, founded in 1993, is a member-run organization, with a mandate to work on behalf of our membership. All of our projects are developed in conjunction with our members and respond to their needs.

PRESIDENT

Jenn Farrell, Editorial Collective Member, subTerrain
Jenn is the former managing editor of subTerrain, and current member of the magazine's editorial collective. She works in Vancouver as a freelance magazine writer, editor and teacher, and her work has appeared in PRISM international, Forget and West Coast Line. She is the author of two collections of short fiction: Sugar Bush & Other Stories (Anvil Press, 2006), and The Devil You Know (Anvil Press, 2010).

Darren Bernaerdt, Publisher, Pacific Rim Magazine
With roots in commercial photography, Darren has since delved deep into Photoshop and built his production skills. He has taught with the Publishing and Photo-Imaging programs at Langara College for over a decade. In Spring 2012, he assumed the duties of Publisher of Pacific Rim Magazine, the annual magazine produced by Langara’s Publishing students.
Stacey McLachlan, Assistant Editor, Western Living
Stacey works for Western Living as an assistant editor, and contributes to other local publications as a writer and fact-checker. Her work can be found in Award, BeatRoute, Granville Online, and BC Living.
DIRECTORS AT LARGE

Maia Odegaard, Online Coordinator and Administrative Assistant, TC Transcontinental
Maia coordinates the online advertising, takes care of the e-newsletters, tracks online and ad stats, and does some copy for Western Living and Vancouver magazines.
Gary Davies was appointed President of Canada Wide Media Ltd. on July 3rd. Based in Burnaby, Canada Wide is the largest independent magazine publisher in Western Canada, publishing such well-known brands as BC Business and BC Home and Garden. Davies was formerly the Executive Vice-President of RedPoint Media Group Inc. in Calgary, where he worked for more than 15 years. He most recently served as Past President of the Alberta Magazine Publishers Association. He presently sits on the Board of Magazines Canada and on the Board of BPA International.
